"Miss Molly"

I was born in 1836 in Richland County Ohio. I was an only child. My father was out of work. When he heard about a wagon train going west out of St. Louis, so he sold everything but a few items my mother wouldn't part with. He bought a wagon and we headed for St. Louis.

We joined a group of about 20 families and headed west. It was a hard and long trek. When we were in the New Mexico territory we were attacked by indians. Many people died that day including my parents. I was 17 years old then. I thought we were all going to die, until I saw soldiers riding in. They chased the indians away and took us to their fort. We were there for over a year when I met a soldier named Pancho.

We fell in love, got married, and when his enlistment was up we traveled west. We came to a town called Chloride. We settled there and I became a school teacher.
